• Graphic Designer

KLRU, Austin's PBS station, seeks an experienced multimedia Graphic Designer to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Must have a passion for design, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of composition, color and typography. Qualified candidate is comfortable creating for web, print and has experience with motion graphics and editing video. Must be able to demonstrate ability to create original designs that work across several media including on-air, online and in print.

The Graphic Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining a consistent brand across all KLRU properties (print, web and on-air). The Graphic Designer also creates and maintains branding for KLRU productions, events, web sites and print materials. Such projects may include design for on-air, web, mobile, templates, style guides, and other design deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ability to manage, track, prioritize and execute design requests, following projects through production phase to ensure timeliness and accuracy of completion.
Ability to conceptualize design solutions and execute for implementation across a variety of mediums including broadcast, web and print.
Helps establish and monitor consistent use of the KLRU brand, and assists in the creation and maintenance of visual guidelines.
Creates and designs key KLRU advertising, brochures, posters, newsletters, signage and related graphic design components in a collaborative way.
Prepares and tracks cost estimates and recommends suppliers that stay within budgetary guidelines, including processing internal requisitions.
Develops relationships with effective, reliable vendors and third-parties.
Oversees photography requests assigning and contracting outside photographers for special events and assignments as needed.
Coordinate hiring outside photographers to cover events as needed and occasionally photographing events when necessary.
Ability to work with and incorporate assets from a variety of sources.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field. At least two years related work experience.
Background in television and/or non-profit highly desirable.
Expert in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Acrobat essential.
Knowledge of Powerpoint helpful.
Knowledge of html and CSS helpful.
Knowledge of digital and offset printing processes.
Photography experience not essential but desirable.
Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
Ability to work independently with limited direction but understand that all work needs to be reviewed.
Interact cooperatively with staff and participants and work as a team member.
Ability to be flexible, think creatively, make independent judgments, problem solve. supervise, delegate, perform multiple tasks, and function capably in complex organization.
Ability to organize time and documents effectively.
Ability to work under short deadlines with calm demeanor.
Must possess a sense of humor or be willing to obtain one.
Frequent evening, and occasional weekend work require.
